The Trend of Boys Dancing Swing
Boys dancing swing is a trend that shows no sign of slowing. Even guys who aren't enthusiastic dancers can enjoy this form of dance. Swing dancing dates back to 1926 when it was introduced to the public at the wildly popular Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. These days, swing dancing is a great way to get exercise, meet other dance enthusiasts and wear fun retro clothes. For example, many guys who swing dance wear wide leg trousers, striped suits, vintage sailor gear and wingtip or captoe shoes. Girls get to look glamorous in tulip style skirts and old fashioned dresses. Many swing dance supply companies make special shoes and clothing especially designed for swing dancers who want to look the part while remaining comfortable.
There are different variations of swing dance that are taught and performed around the nation. Examples include Carolina Shag and Savoy Swing. East Coast Swing is another variation that was originally developed for competitive purposes. The type of dance you will find in your area often depends on where you live. However, thanks to the renewed interest in swing combined with modern technology, dancers are being exposed to other styles they may not have discovered on their own.
There are a variety of instructional DVDs and books that can teach you how to swing dance. Many of the basic moves, like the Sugar Push, are the foundation of some of the most popular dances like the Lindy Hop and the Jitterbug. If you're brand new to swing, reviewing instructional materials can be the perfect complement to an actual swing dancing class. If you've danced before but need a little practice before going to a club, these materials can be a perfect refresher course.
The social aspect of the dance is one big reason why boys dancing swing is such a popular trend. Guys are accompanying their girlfriends or wives to classes and clubs in many cases. Other guys pursue swing dancing on their own as a fun way to meet new people. Swing dancing is the ideal way to do this because it is common for dancers to switch partners many times in the same night. Swing is fun and energetic, and is a great way to burn calories while learning a new skill. With the popularity of dance reality shows on television today, it's speculated that swing dance will become more popular than ever!
